TheSpan INC
In my role as the Product Design Lead for TheSpan, a groundbreaking video/film streaming platform, I was given the incredible opportunity to blend entertainment and technology, in order to provide aspiring talents a stage like no other. The core proposition of TheSpan was to create a unique ecosystem where film directors could establish contests for aspiring artists. These talents, in turn, could upload their work based on the given criteria. Viewers had the ability to vote for their favorite submissions, and these public votes would guide directors towards potential hires for upcoming movie roles.
Given the unique nature of this project, the challenge lay in balancing the needs and expectations of three distinct user groups: the talents, the viewers, and the film directors. My role was to devise a UI/UX that was intuitive, engaging, and catered to the unique needs of all three stakeholders. As the lead of the design team, I started by conducting detailed user research to understand the expectations and pain points of each user group. Based on this, I developed user personas that represented the needs of our users. This served as the foundation for my design decisions.
Research and Ideation
The research phase was an intense dive into the world of our users. It involved an array of techniques, from one-on-one interviews and online surveys, to focus group discussions and detailed market analysis. This comprehensive research was crucial for understanding the expectations, pain points, habits, and desires of our users - movie directors, talents, and viewers. By analyzing these findings, we identified key themes and insights that were instrumental in the development of distinct, detailed user personas. These personas not only provided a clear understanding of our target audience but also served as a constant reminder of whom we were designing for.
Following the research phase, the team and I moved into the ideation phase. We held brainstorming sessions, where we generated an array of ideas that aimed to solve the identified pain points and meet user expectations. Sketches and low-fidelity wireframes of potential design solutions were created to visualize the layout and interaction patterns. This stage was filled with exploration and discussions, and the best ideas were developed further.

UI Design, Testing and Iterations
Once we had a solid understanding of our user needs and potential solutions, the user interface design phase began. During this phase, I transformed low-fidelity wireframes into pixel-perfect, high-fidelity mockups. For viewers, the interface was designed to be clean, intuitive, and focused on providing an immersive viewing experience. For talents, I ensured that the video uploading process was as simple as possible, and created a personal dashboard where they could track their submission performance, receive feedback, and stay updated on contest results. For directors, I designed a dedicated interface where they could easily create contests, review submissions, and directly engage with talents.
Once the initial designs were complete, we moved into the testing phase. User testing sessions were organized with individuals who matched our user personas. These sessions provided invaluable insights into how our designs were performing in the real world. Feedback from these sessions was used to identify areas for improvement, which were then addressed in subsequent design iterations. This cyclical process of design, test, and iterate was repeated several times to ensure we were creating a platform that genuinely met the needs of our users.

Outcome
The initial design outcomes of our rigorous process have been highly promising. TheSpan, currently in the development phase, has received encouraging feedback from users involved in testing, providing us with confidence in the platform's potential to transform the movie-making industry.
As the development continues, we eagerly anticipate the full release of TheSpan. We believe that the platform, backed by an engaging and intuitive design, will revolutionize the way movie directors, talents, and viewers interact, democratizing the movie-making process in an unprecedented way. This project has allowed us to create a design that doesn’t just cater to its users but empowers them. With every design iteration and development milestone, we are one step closer to transforming an innovative concept into a revolutionary platform.
